Relieve constipation with this gently laxative herbal syrup, which takes advantage of tamarind's laxative properties to stimulate the intestines and promote quick bowel movements.
- Remove the outer shells from the tamarind pods.(1 minute)
- Pour the water into a saucepan, add the tamarind pods, and boil for 30 minutes.(30 minutes)
- Strain the pods from the liquid and discard them. To the liquid, add the sugar and boil until it thickens to the desired consistency.(10 minutes)
- Let it cool before storing in a bottle.(4 minutes)
Store this syrup in the refrigerator. Whenever passing stool becomes a problem, take half a tablespoon every half an hour (without exceeding 1.5 tablespoons per day). This laxative should not be used long-term in order to avoid developing on a dependency on it for bowel evacuation. Use only occasionally and when needed.
