Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of fennel (leaves)
  • 1/2 cup of peony (flowers)
  • 2 pints of water

Directions

This muscle-relaxing and estrogenic infusion is a soothing way to ease menstrual discomfort. Peony has antispasmodic properties, which helps relax the digestive system. Fennel is a carminative, meaning it helps with the expulsion of gas to thereby reduce bloating. In addition, both herbs have slight estrogenic activities, so they can help alleviate the natural hormonal imbalances that come with menopause.

  1. Combine the flowers and leaves in a large mug. Boil the kettle.(3 minutes)
  2. Pour boiling water over the herbs to fill the mug. Leave to steep.(10 minutes)
  3. Reheat in a saucepan over a gentle heat to consume hot.(2 minutes)

Alternatively, this infusion can be left to chill in the refrigerator before serving with ice for an iced tea. To experience the medicinal effects of this infusion, consume a cupful at least three times a day.
