  • 1/4 cup of Brandy

  • 750 milliliters of Red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, or Merlot work well)
  • 1 Lemon (juiced)
  • 2 Star Anise (pods)
  • 1/2 Nutmeg (grated)

Directions

Try a warming cup of this rich, fruity mulled wine to generate festive cheer. Cinnamon and ginger are two tasty herbs that also help relieve digestive problems - useful during the holidays, when overindulgence is common - and the citrus additions are rich in vitamin C.

  1. Combine all the ingredients except lemon juice in a large cooking pot and gently warm over a low heat, stirring occasionally.(20 minutes)
  2. Once the pot is steaming, stir in the lemon juice. Ladle the liquid into cups to serve, leaving the seasonings in the pot.(5 minutes)

Gently reheat the mulled wine until steaming to warm up a second or third cupful.
