Directions

If you want to take a break from your oat-based hot cereal, this recipe might be exactly what you need. Kaniwa is an Andean pseudocereal that belongs to the same family as quinoa. It's rich in complete protein, fiber, and micronutrients. Plus, it's the perfect base for creamy and delicious hot cereal bowls that will be on your table in less than five minutes.

  1. In a saucepan, bring the milk to a boil. Add in the kaniwa flakes, vanilla extract, and sweetener (if using). Then lower the heat, and cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently.(4 minutes)
  2. Let stand for 2-3 minutes. Then transfer it to a bowl, top it with jam, peanut butter, and chia seeds. Enjoy right away!(2 minutes)

This hot cereal with kaniwa flakes is made with no sweeteners since it's topped with the jam. However, feel free to sweeten it according to preference.
