  • 40 minutes
  • About 3 cups

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of anise
  • 2 cups of honey (or another sweetener)
  • 2 pints of water

Directions

Anise syrup can help ease stomach pains and make the digestive process more efficient. Rich in B vitamins and other nutrients, anise is especially for relieving gastrointestinal issues, especially bloating. Syrup is a friendlier form of herbal medicine, as it appeals to both children and the elderly.  After the anise decoction has been prepared, the syrup can be sweetened to taste.

  1. Place the anise and water in a pot and simmer on low heat until only 1 pint of liquid (half the original) remains.(15 minutes)
  2. Strain the herbs from the liquid.
  3. The honey (or another sweetener) to the pot and warm the liquid, which allows it to thicken.(25 minutes)

Take one teaspoon of syrup up to three times a day to treat bloating, colic, and other digestive symptoms. The syrup, when stored in airtight bottles, can be kept in the refrigerator for several weeks.
