Ingredients

  • 8 cups of cranberry (fresh)
  • 1/2 cup of orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 cup of lemon (freshly squeezed juice)
  • 1/2 cup of honey (or to taste)
  • 8 cups of water

Directions

Cranberry juice contains nutrients to treat urinary tract infections; this recipe uses citrus flavors to provide a more exotic taste, with less sugar than that of commercial brands.

  1. Put the cranberries and water in a large saucepan and bring to the boil.(5 minutes)
  2. Once boiled, lower the heat and cover the saucepan. Leave the mixture to simmer for 25 minutes.(25 minutes)
  3. Pass the mixture through a food mill (using the smallest plate). Stir in the lemon and orange juices and add honey to taste.(2 minutes)
  4. Stir the mixture through a large sieve, taking care not to apply too much pressure with the spoon or the juice will be too thick.(5 minutes)
  5. Allow to cool in the refrigerator before pouring over ice in a glass to serve.(10 minutes)

Fresh cranberry juice is best consumed within two days. However, if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, it can last a couple of weeks. Drink throughout the day as desired to reduce the symptoms of urinary tract infection.
